About Calaburn Kitchens

After studying Textile Design at Edinburgh School of Art, Pete began his career in the woven textile industry before pursuing his entrepreneurial ambitions. In 1982, he established a small kitchen studio in the Marchmont area of Edinburgh, specialising in premium German kitchen furniture.

As the business grew, Pete expanded the studio to include both contemporary German designs and bespoke furniture for kitchens, bedrooms, and studies. His partnership with the Newcastle Furniture Company as their sole Scottish representative marked a turning point, allowing him to offer truly custom furniture solutions tailored to his clients’ unique spaces.

Pete’s expertise and passion for design quickly earned him a reputation for excellence. By collaborating with some of Scotland’s leading architectural practices, he worked on prestigious projects across the UK—from luxurious homes in Mayfair, London, to croft house rebuilds in the Outer Hebrides. His projects spanned a diverse range of styles, budgets, and client aspirations, showcasing his adaptability and commitment to high-quality results.

By the 1990s, Pete’s business was well-established, offering “Turn Key” solutions that encompassed full property renovations and multi-room transformations, including kitchens, utility rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, and home offices.

Today, Pete brings over 40 years of industry experience and an unparalleled dedication to design. His meticulous approach balances creativity with practicality, ensuring every project aligns with his clients’ vision and budget. At Calaburn Kitchens, Pete continues to deliver exceptional results, working exclusively with Nolte Kitchens from Germany for cutting-edge contemporary furniture, and Newcastle Furniture Company for bespoke, handcrafted designs for every corner of the home.

Chris’s journey into the world of bespoke kitchen design began in 2007 after excelling in Craft, Design, and Art during high school. He embarked on an apprenticeship with Pete’s established kitchen furniture business, where he gained invaluable hands-on experience installing both contemporary and traditional furniture. During this time, Chris also studied at Jewel & Esk Valley College in Midlothian, completing his apprenticeship in 2013 with a PDA (SQA Level 8) in Carpentry & Joinery.

By 2013, the company had evolved into delivering full “Turn Key” project solutions, managing every aspect of property renovations and extensions. Chris embraced this shift, acquiring a wide range of construction skills and developing a deep understanding of client aspirations and expectations. These experiences shaped his ability to deliver exceptional projects tailored to individual needs.

In 2019, Chris further expanded his expertise by earning an HNC in Architectural Technology from Edinburgh College. He continued his academic journey at Edinburgh Napier University, graduating in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science (HONS) in Architectural Technology. This combination of practical and academic experience has equipped Chris with a comprehensive understanding of building functionality, construction, and design.

From obtaining the necessary permissions to overseeing every detail of the design and construction process, Chris ensures that all work is carried out to the highest standards.
